15/1/2011 - A new TEC Star additive for anti-bacterial polymers (plastics and paints) is reaching the market

TEC Star is today able to provide a new nanotechnology product with an efficient bactericide effect. This is a nanoparticle-based additive that, at the present time, has been developed as a prototype for certain specific paint applications, but it is in practice upgradable to any type of polymer (from technical plastics, to rubbers, to varnishes).
The product doesn’t modify the colour of the polymeric material. As a matter of fact it is, if necessary, totally transparent (as shown in the example reported in the figure, where a plexiglass sheet coated with antibacterial varnish is compared with a sheet coated with a traditional varnish) and offers a proven and efficient anti-bacterial effect (qualitatively demonstrated using a Kirby-Bauer test on polymer sheets coated with antibacterial varnish).
This additive could be of interest for all the paint and polymer users and producers, who are interested in providing a strong bactericide behaviour to their products surfaces. It is, thus, possible to have long-lasting clean and healthy surfaces, mainly for those products routinely used by different users: food or commodities distribution equipments, public transportations, etc.
